What pack sizes are available?

BEST OAK® products are packaged in polyethylene (PE) bags to lock in freshness and available in 4-oz, 1-lb, 5-lbs, 10-lbs, 33-lbs bags for the BEST OAK® chips and 55-lbs bags for BEST OAK® INSTANT.

What is the difference between oak chips and oak extract?

Oak extract is high-alcohol (60%) solution that has been steeped with oak chips and assumed the oak flavor. It is convenient to use. Oak chips typically impart a more natural flavor in wine.

What is BEST OAK®?

Only select French Oak from the Alsace Region of France is called Best Oak. Harvested from certified forests and aged for 24 months, the wood undergoes a special chipping process before milling.

What makes BEST OAK® unique from other oak chips?

J.Rettenmaier & Söhne selects and uses only the best staves – aged for 24 months – in making BEST OAK® products. Its special milling process ensures virtually all dust is removed from the oak chips; all BEST OAK® chips are uniform in size with even toasting.

What is the taste profile for BEST OAK® PTM (premium toast medium)?

Wine takes on an aroma of cloves, vanilla and almond/caramel.

What is the taste profile for BEST OAK® PTH (premium toast heavy)?

The wine takes on the fumy aroma of vanilla, almond/caramel and a hint of coconut.

  1. PayPal "Instant Payment" eChecks take about 4 business days to process through your bank.

  3. Money orders delay orders longer since they must be mailed through the US Postal Service.

How are shipping and handling costs calculated?

  • Shipping costs are based on current UPS Ground rates (based on ship-to zip code and package weight & size)
  • Enter your shipping address ZIP CODE in the shipping rate calculator to determine shipping and handling costs.

Which shipping carriers and services are used?

United Parcel Service (UPS) provides the most economical service: UPS Ground.
UPS Ground guarantees delivery to all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Orders to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico are shipped via UPS 2nd Day Air. Click UPS Ground for more details.

What are the Sales Terms?

  1. BEST OAK® products come in toast level and chip size selected during ordering.
  2. Items are packed well and insured through the shipping carrier (UPS).
  3. For damages during shipping, Just Best Oak must be notified immediately to ensure timely filing of a claim with the carrier. You must retain shipping box for inspection. UPS claims must be filed within 15 days of delivery.
  4. No guarantee on delivery time estimates.
  5. Shipping and Handling costs are Non-Refundable.
  6. Wine compatibility with BEST OAK® chips is not guranteed. Please research compatibility and flavor profile by conducting an oak trial on a small amount of wine before applying oak to all of your wine.

SHIPPING (USA)

How long will it take to ship my order via UPS Ground?

Visit UPS Ground Time-In-Transit Maps to determine transit time and route (enter the origin zip code). UPS Ground service takes between 1 to 6 Business Days* (Please read "Attention" below) from Seattle, WA depending on the distance between the origin & destination!

Addresses on the West Coast: UPS Ground transit time is between1 to 3 business days.

Addresses on the East Coast: transit typically is 5 business days (one week; i.e., if sent on a Friday, you'll receive it the next Friday).

*ATTENTION: This is a UPS transit estimate and does not include the day it's shipped, Saturdays, Sundays, & holidays (OR OUR PROCESSING TIME!). We usually ship most items within a few business days of payment clearing. Business Days are considered to be Monday through Friday.

Is there a packaging & handling fee?

Yes. Please see the item description. It is posted in bold in the shipping section. (This fee IS included in the shipping quote).

How are the shipping charges calculated?

Shipping charges are calculated using the UPS Rate Calculator. Rates are estimated by the weight (and size) of the item(s) and the distance from our zip code to yours.

Will you send me a tracking #?

Yes, your tracking # will automatically be emailed to you after we print the shipping label through PayPal Shipping. If you don't receive it for some reason, please email us and we will send / resend it. Sometimes your email may block it.
Please Note: A signature is required for delivery for your protection against theft. If no one will be there to sign for it, please contact Just Best Oak prior to shipment to make arrangements. The signature requirement cannot be changed after shipment per UPS policy.

How do I track my shipment?

After you receive the tracking #, track it at the UPS website (UPS Tracking) or call UPS at 1-800-PICK-UPS.

UPS does not recognize the tracking number; why can't I track my shipment?

Often it is timing: it takes several hours for a shipment to register in the UPS computer system. In this case, just try it again later. Rarely there can be

  • network problems; the information does not transfer to UPS until the problem is fixed, and the order data must be resent to UPS.
  • a typo in the tracking number. Be sure to check the box "By selecting this box and the ‘Track’ button, I agree to these Terms and Conditions..." before UPS will proceed with the tracking info.

Why do you prefer to ship via UPS?

Because of UPS’s detailed tracking and guaranteed delivery times.

Is it possible to ship my order via one of UPS's air services – Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, 3-Day Select – instead of UPS Ground?

Yes; however, 3-Day Select costs usually twice the rate of Ground. 2nd Day & Next Day Air cost even more. Read the "Please Note" section below; orders are not shipped until payment has cleared. To upgrade your shipment to a faster UPS service:

  1. Send an email to Just Best Oak sales@justbestoak.com from the item description page BEFORE PAYING (shipping amount will be incorrect).
  2. Mention the preferred delivery date and day
  3. Note the desired service (3-Day Select, 2nd Day or Next Day Air)
  4. A new invoice with the correct shipping amount for the service you've chosen will be sent to you via reply e-mail. If you decided you need a quicker service AFTER having paid, and there’s a chance the order hasn’t been shipped yet, please immediately contact Just Best Oak. Differences between the UPS Ground charge and the air service charges can be paid using PayPal.

Can orders be shipped outside of the United States?

Please contact us at info@justbestoak.com . There are some countries with restrictions and requirement of paperwork to clear customs.

When will my item(s) be shipped?

Orders usually ship within two business days of PayPal advising that payment has cleared. Extra-large or unusually shaped packages can take a little longer for proper packaging.

For RUSH orders: please contact Just Best Oak during ordering process to obtain new shipping total. Shipping can be changed from UPS ground to UPS air for additional cost.

*Please Note: PayPal payment methods have different payment processing times:

  1. PayPal "Instant" eCheck payments are NOT instant; usually takes 4 business days to process.
  2. PayPal payments made with a credit or debit card are cleared during regular business days.
  3. PayPal does not provide estimated clearing time during the payment process.
  4. PayPal advises withholding shipment for orders paid via eCheck until it clears.
    5. PayPal business days are Monday through Friday; weekends and holidays are excluded.

How many times will UPS attempt delivery?

UPS attempts delivery three times. A note is left on your door if when delivery was attempted and no one answered door. For more info, please see UPS Delivery Attempts FAQ

Can I ship to a PO Box via UPS?

No, you cannot. UPS must have a street address. If for some reason you only provide a PO Box shipping address during order, an email requesting your street address for UPS delivery or your permission to ship it via US Postal Service will be sent to you. This can slow shipment.

What is the UPS Holiday Schedule for 2010?

In the United States, UPS observes the following holidays:

  • May 31: Memorial Day: No pickup or delivery service.
  • July 5: Independence Day: No pickup or delivery service.
  • September 6: Labor Day: No pickup or delivery service.
  • November 25: Thanksgiving: No pickup or delivery service.
  • Novemeber 26: Day after Thanksgiving Day: Delivery and pickup of air and international packages only
  • December 25: Christmas Day: No pickup or delivery service.
  • December 31: New Year´s Eve: Not a business day. No pickup or delivery service.
  • January 1, 2011: New Year's Day: Delivery/pickup of air and international packages only

Is a signature required for delivery?

Yes, a signature is required for delivery for your protection against theft. If no one will be there to sign for it, please contact Just Best Oak prior to shipment to make arrangements. The signature requirement cannot be changed after shipment per UPS policy.

Do you offer international shipping?

Yes. International shipping is available through United Parcel Service (UPS). Due to restriction of the sale of oak chips into some countries BEST OAK® cannot be shipped everywhere. If you are outside of the United States please contact us at info@justbestoak.com for more information.

What is PayPal?

PayPal is a convenient, easy-to-use, and secure way for individuals and businesses to send and receive money online for goods, services, charitable donations, and so forth.

Will it cost anything to send money via a PayPal account?

It's always free to send payments using your PayPal account.

Is PayPal secure?

Yes. PayPal uses SSL technology to keep your information safe. In addition, when you send a payment using PayPal, the recipient won't receive sensitive financial information like your credit card or bank account number.

Why do some sellers require buyers to provide a Confirmed Address?

PayPal provides confirmed address information to help sellers make informed decisions when shipping goods. For example, a credit card billing address will be confirmed because it is a safer address than most other addresses. Some sellers may prefer to ship to a confirmed address in order to qualify for the Seller Protection Policy.

What is a Confirmed Address?

A confirmed address is an address that has been reviewed by PayPal and found to be safe based on information related to the address. For example, a credit card billing address is confirmed because PayPal can check that the address is the same as the address on file at the credit card company.

What is an Unconfirmed Address?

An Unconfirmed Address is any address not associated with a credit card or that has not been verified by PayPal. Most non-U.S. addresses cannot be confirmed at this time because many international credit card platforms do not support the methods.

Can I ask a seller to ship an item to someone else's mailing address 

Yes. PayPal buyers can provide a seller with an alternative address to send an item to someone else or to another location. However, alternative addresses cannot be confirmed by PayPal. Some sellers only ship to Confirmed Addresses verified by PayPal.

How do I confirm my address through PayPal?  

To confirm your address, you will first need to add a credit card to your PayPal account. If your credit card company supports the Address Verification System, PayPal will check that the address you provided for your account matches the billing address that your credit card company has on file. Please note that not all credit card companies are currently able to confirm an address. 

Can I send a Money Order instead of PayPal?

PayPal is preferred: it is quick and easy.

You may send a U.S. Postal Service Money Order to Just Best Oak.

  1. Please send an email to Just Best Oak during the ordering process.
  2. Advise that a USPS money order will be used for payment.
  3. You will receive an with an invoice and mailing instructions

How do I change my street address through PayPal?

Change your street address on your PayPal Profile using these steps:

  1. Login to your PayPal account.
  2. Click the Profile subtab.
  3. Click the Street Address link in the Account Information column.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Enter your new address.
  6. Click Save
  7. Your new address has been successfully added.

How do I change my shipping address from my My eBay page?

To correct the shipping address from your My eBay page:

  1. Log in to your eBay account.
  2. Go to your My eBay page
  3. Under My Account section, click Addresses.
  4. Click the Use PayPal Address button if available.
  5. If prompted, log in to your PayPal account and click Get PayPal Addresses.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Your addresses are now updated. Find the confirmed address (in green) and click Set as primary address. Future payments now reflect this address.

Note: If you are the seller and wish to be covered under the Seller Protection Policy, refund and ask the buyer to resubmit the payment with the confirmed PayPal address. (Source: PayPal - Help)

How can I tell the difference between a real PayPal email and a fake one?

The term spoofing and phishing have been used to describe the act of collecting personal information using a fake email in order to commit identity theft, credit card, and Internet fraud. If you click on a link included in an email you're not sure is from PayPal, make sure the address at the top of the browser window you're brought to reads exactly www.paypal.com/eBay.

PayPal emails will address you by first name, last name, or business name, and NOT by Dear PayPal User or Dear PayPal Member. If you are ever uncertain about the validity of the email or the email links, open a new web browser window and type in www.paypal.com/eBay. If you think you have received a fraudulent email, forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com and then delete it from your email account. (Source: PayPal - Help)

What is the difference between my street address and my billing address?

Your street address is the address where you reside or your business location. Your billing address is the address to which your credit card bills are sent.
